On August 8, 2024, Core4ce hosted an end-of-summer internship event showcasing the work of more than 20 high school/pre-college and college interns who directly contributed to projects across the company this year. The event accentuated the value of bidirectional learning in driving technical advancements and professional growth, particularly highlighting research and development efforts at Core4ce following the recent launch of our newly-branded innovation incubator, The Forge.
Members of the 2024 intern cohort advanced projects involving UI/UX design for data visualization tools, AI prompt engineering, coding with data, and data pipeline management. Throughout the daylong wrap up event, the intern class demonstrated new technical capabilities while also emphasizing the importance of developing soft skills to ensure successful remote collaboration across project teams.
Core4ce designed the summer internship program to provide students with hands-on experience in their fields of interest while contributing to real-world projects. “I believe the intern program has multiple areas that impact Core4ce as a whole and lead to a better, more well-rounded, organization,” said Chief Scientist of Cyber Curtis Arnold. “It’s important for Core4ce to continue to invest in tomorrow’s workforce. Working with students on internship programs enriches their education and provides them with more context in their studies. This leads to a more developed young professional when they graduate and enter the workforce. That makes the industry better.”
Core4ce’s internship program was first introduced by David Bock, Vice President of Strategic Development, resulting from his leadership of LoudounCodes – a non-profit that supports computer science education for Loudoun County, VA’s K-12 students. “This internship program is a collision of these two worlds, with a positive impact on Core4ce. Knowing so many students, I can guide those who are developing skillsets related to the work we do; connecting the company with juniors to amplify the effectiveness of our seniors while giving promising students an opportunity to ‘level up,’” said Bock. In addition to Arnold and Bock, the intern class received guidance from returning Intern Program Coordinator and computer science educator Rodney Snyder.

The collaborative spirit of the internship program drives a learning culture at Core4ce, and the program has already resulted in the hiring of two employees on The Forge team who initially joined the company as interns.
Looking to the future, Arnold noted, “I am most looking for Core4ce to continue to develop its internship program to allow for multi-year internships and a program to identify the best and brightest to easily transfer them to the Core4ce team after graduation. Having students learning with context from the Core4ce team over multiple years will enable them to have an impact on day one and already be familiar with the Core4ce team culture.”
There is widespread confidence that these early career professionals are poised to make significant and lasting contributions to their academic and professional fields.
